Aims

To equip GP trainers and educators with the knowledge and skills they need to work constructively with their trainees as they prepare for the RCA

Objectives

1. RCA and CSA. Similiarities and differences

2. How to choose good cases for the RCA - what makes a suitable case?

3. The tech - all you need to know about recording and submission

4. Balancing the needs of the practice and the needs of the trainee.

5. Analysing consultations for the RCA - and teaching the trainee to self-analyse

6. Your role as a trainer - looking at cases, advising and supporting within limited time. How to be efficient.

7.Supporting the weak trainee or the perfectionist

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course you will:

- know the differences between the RCA and the CSA and how this affects your trainee and you

- feel confident that you have all the knowledge you need about the RCA

- have developed the skills you need to work with your trainee, ensuring that they have the best possible opportunity to pass the RCA

- have developed clarity about the boundaries of your role and how to use your limited time most efficiently
