Aims

By the end of the session:

- Understand the principles of shared decision making.

- Understand principles of human decision making.

- Understand how decisions might be made better.

- Know where to find more resources to improve shared decision making.

Objectives

We will:

- Explore, using interactive examples, the psychology of human decision making.

- Using interactive examples, we will demonstrate the importance of shared decision making when creating management plans in health care.

- Practice shared decision making using an avatar.

- Discuss approaches to teaching and learning shared decision making with GP registrars and others.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop we will:

- Have a language which describes and discuss human decision making.

- Be able to explore new approaches to consultation skills with GP registrars.

- Have explored new approaches to diagnosing difficulties GP registrars may be having with their consultations and especially with decision making.
