Aims

To ensure that participants gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to support and help their trainees who are preparing for the RCA.

Objectives
  • To provide full information about the exam including the most up to date rules on mandatory cases, examination of patients, appropriate and relevant safety netting and other areas.
  • To consider complexity - how to find Goldilocks cases.
  • To explore how cases are marked and how trainees can easily gain (or lose) vital marks.
  • To analyse a recorded case and consider what makes it appropriate or not for submission, how it might be marked if it were submitted and, if not submitted, how the trainer could help the trainee learn and improve their consultation skills.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course:

Participants will have learnt the latest rules about the RCA, they will have gained skills to analyse and teach on consultations as their trainee prepares for the RCA and they will have gained the confidence to guide their trainees towards a pass.
