Description: Imposter Syndrome or Phenomenon is defined as ‘a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evidence of success’. ‘Imposters’ suffer chronic self-doubt and are unable to internalise their accomplishments however successful they are in their field. This phenomenon is surprisingly common. It can get in the way of professional progress and job satisfaction. Because it is so common, it can be helpful to discuss it in a group setting, explore what it is, how it affects you and what you can do about it. This one-day interactive workshop looks at what Imposter Syndrome is, how it gets in the way of our work, and then more importantly what tools are available to manage it. The day will include evidence-based solutions using ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) techniques. ACT has a huge body of evidence behind it and an impressive pedigree in providing practical tools that are easy to grasp and use.

Description: An exciting and engaging 2-day medical education course for trainees, delivered by experts in their field from DoctorsTraining. In the first session we will explore education theory, learning needs analysis, learning outcomes, constructive alignment and provide time for critically evaluate you own teaching plan. There will be an opportunity to look at different teaching strategies and modalities to understand the relative strengths, challenges, and opportunities to develop a full set of tools as an educator. The main focus of day 2 will be the role of an educator and supervisor of trainees, undergraduate students and members of the multi-professional team. This day will prepare senior trainees for a formal role as a clinical or educational supervisors and is aligned to the GMC’s 7 domains of trainer accreditation. The final section will give delegates the opportunity to explore future careers and leadership opportunities in medical education from our very experienced and diverse faculty. Description: International Medical Graduates (IMGs) make a significant and valuable contribution to the NHS. More than a third of the NHS medical workforce have had their primary medical qualification overseas. In 2021 the total number of licensed IMGs in the medical workforce was over 77 000, with IMGs making up 34% of GP trainees. The following is extracted from the recent document, “Welcoming and valuing international medical graduates – A guide to induction for IMGs recruited to the NHS” “41.9% of the NHS medical workforce are from an ethnic minority background. There is substantial evidence showing that ethnic minority staff are likely to experience racism and discrimination and may have poorer experience and progression opportunities, and that ‘the extent to which an organisation values its minority staff is a good barometer of how well patients are likely to feel cared for’. (https://www.e-lfh.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Welcoming-and-Valuing-International-Medical-Graduates-A-guide-to-induction-for-IMGs-WEB.pdf) This day long course aims to address the specific issues that affect IMGs. Description: Good communication skills are important for several reasons but can often be a challenge in the high stress, time poor clinical environment. As the NHS focuses on a more patient centred approach, it is vital that the medical professional understands how to build an open, trusting rapport with their patients through active listening, understanding, clear speech and empathy. Good communication skills have also been proven to increase the medical professionals job satisfaction, increase patient satisfaction and decrease the number of complaints made. This interpersonal skills workshop has been designed to develop the participants knowledge, skill, and confidence in the different styles of communication and the various scenarios they may face, for example breaking bad news. We address verbal, nonverbal and paraverbal communication and how all three need to work together, and complement each other to produce effortless, and effective communication. By the end of this workshop, you will have more confidence in your communication and how to navigate difficult conversations in this stressful and emotional environment. For example, anxious & protective parents, delivering terribly sad and life changing news, communicating effectively with children & young adults, dealing with angry, frustrated, concerned and frightened patients and family members.

Pour yourself a comforting cup of tea and join us for a warm and welcoming IMG teatime session, where we come together to chat, connect and share challenges with fellow IMG trainees in a supportive and empathetic environment. Whether it’s work-related stress, personal challenges, what you’ve just watched on Netflix, or just the need to connect with a friendly group, you’re not alone. We're not a counselling service, but our aim is to share ideas, experiences and challenges, making it a perfect opportunity to connect, relax and enjoy a bit of downtime. It’s more than just tea! You can come once, to every session or just drop in whenever you can. Together we’ll sip, share and find strength in one another. These sessions will plan to run on the first Tuesday and third Thursday of a month at 6pm unless otherwise stated by the SuppoRTT team.
