DescriptionA one-day course at the University of Leeds, Anatomy department where the trainees will perform surgical procedures on Thiel cadavers with consultant faculty and supervision. The course will include a mixture of theory and practical sessions.
Additional information

Please read the dissection room regulations prior to attending the course. You will be asked to sign that you have read the regulations on the day at registration.

The course Director is Mr Tim Stansfield, Consultant Vascular Surgeon, Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.

The course is free for Yorkshire and Humber Trainees. Priority will be given to regional trainees. Please make sure you meet the correct grade criteria for each speciality before booking your place. (See course description)

Surgical gowns, over shoes, facemasks and gloves are provided for the lab. If you wish to wear theatre blues please bring your own.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this teaching day delegates should be able to demonstrate:

1. Access to the thoracic cavity required by a vascular surgeon

2. Graft anastomosis to the descending thoracic aorta

3. Aortic de-branching within the thoracic cavity

4. Emergency manoeuvres within the thoracic cavity performed by a resuscitative surgeon
