DescriptionAs the owner of a busy NHS practice, and member of the Infection Prevention Society, Nikolai will bring a practical and evidence based approach to how current guidance applies to dental practice. This evening, suitable for all team members will help ensure the requirements of HTM105, the CQC and GDC are being met. Participants will have a greater awareness of why cross infection matters, and a better understanding of the importance of their actions in preventing the transmission of infection in the dental practice setting.

Aims

To update dental professionals working in general dental practice on the principles of cross infection control.

Objectives

Following the course, participants will:

1. Be familiar with germ theory and the potential spread of infection in the dental environment

2. Understand the principle of universal precautions

3. Understand the instrument reprocessing cycle

4. Have a greater understanding of the use of personal protective equipment in dentistry and the importance of hand washing

5. Be aware of Sharps Directive 2010/32 and how to manage needle stick injury

Participants will have a greater awareness of why cross infection matters, and better understanding of the importance of their actions in preventing cross infection in practice.
