DescriptionThe focus of this study day is an introduction to clinical nutrition for the dental team. The course will cover some basic nutrition principals before going on to look at the nutritional biochemistry relevant to chronic inflammation and the periodontal tissues. Finally the practical application of the information studied will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity to experience a case history for themselves.

Each study day is divided into four parts:

A Nutrition and Biochemistry revision session relevant to chronic inflammation and periodontal disease.

A Nutrition and Oral Health session with a review of the latest research and evidence base.

This workshop will cover dietary habits that affect chronic inflammation.

Carbohydrate and protein intake relative to oral health and chronic inflammation.

Essential Fatty Acids and inflammatory bone loss.

The resolution of chronic inflammation.

Marginal deficiency and physical observation techniques.

The practical application of clinical nutrition is highlighted with particular relevance to oral health.
