Aims

· To provide an update on the management of caries in the primary dentition and the use of preformed metal crowns

· To provide “hands on” experience for placement of preformed metal crown on a deciduous molar.

Objectives

By the end of the session all participants should be able to

· Feel more confident about managing children who require a preformed metal crown

· Select appropriate restorative materials for various clinical situations in the carious primary dentition

· Justify the use of preformed metal crowns in the primary dentition using the Hall technique

· Place a preformed metal crown (stainless steel crown) on a deciduous molar using the Hall technique

· Identify clinical situations which require additional intervention for placement of a preformed metal crown
