Description | THIS IS A 2-DAY EVENT. THE 2ND PART IS FRIDAY, 26TH SEPT. PARTICIPANTS NEED TO ATTEND BOTH DAYS. Discover how fibre technology can revolutionise treatment planning. Improvements in materials and bonding techniques are a key factor in providing the clinician and the patient with new minimally invasive choices. Conventional treatment options i.e. metal and ceramic may well prove too expensive for many patients in today’s difficult economic climate. Direct fibre reinforced bridges are a reliable and aesthetic way to replace missing teeth in a single visit whether temporarily, transitionally or for the long term. This is a good alternative for patients who can’t tolerate the conventional acrylic dentures. In a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere you can experience this comprehensive and informative hands-on training session, which will be delivered in three modules throughout the day. Each module starts with an introductory lecture including clinical cases, illustrating the different techniques followed by a step-by-step demonstration. Finally, you will be given the opportunity to work with the fibres and complete each exercise under supervision.

Aims | Splinting: Learn the techniques for placing periodontal and trauma splints. Get the feel of the fibres as you work with them on the model provided.
• Anterior Bridges: The design and construction of a single tooth fibre reinforced anterior bridge. Experience laying down the fibre framework and the satisfaction of building up a freehand aesthetic pontic, using a basic 3 layer composite technique. More advanced designs for fibre frameworks are discussed and alternative ways to construct a pontic are covered.
• Endodontic posts: Learn how to construct an anatomical root canal post using a soft flexible fibre post material. The exercise teaches the ideal filling techniques for the canal and cavum maximising the strength of the post in this critical area. Finally the post can be cemented into the training block followed by a core build up.
Objectives | After attending the hands-on course, dentists will be able to: • Select suitable patients • Place a perio splint • Construct a fibre post directly in the mouth • Bond the fibre post into a root canal treated tooth • Construct a direct anterior bridge with a 3 layer composite pontic. This is also a good alternative to the minimally invasive Mary-land surface retained bridge.
