Description | This course provides covers the key features in occlusion so that you can make occlusion your friend and not let it be your enemy in clinical dentistry. This popular course will help you manage occlusal problems such as tooth wear, poor aesthetics, cracked cusp syndrome, fractured restorations, overeruption, TMD and bruxism. In the hands-on session you will restore teeth suffering from wear which have altered the occlusion, use the features of principles and Dahl to correct the occlusion, and treat cracked cusps. You will also make a series of splints from simple protective guards and anti-bruxism splints to stabilisation splints for TMD and antisnoring appliances. The need for facebows and intra-occlusal records, how to easily obtain centric relation and why to use it are all covered practically. | ||||
Additional information | Professor Brian Millar BDS, FDSRCS, PhD, FHEA will lead us through this interactive and hands on day. Brian is Professor of Blended Learning in Dentistry at King’s College London and NHS Consultant in Restorative Dentistry at the King’s College London Dental Institute at Guy's, King's and St Thomas' Hospitals. Specialist in Prosthodontics and in Restorative Dentistry. Brian has published over 150 papers, supervised over 200 PhD and Masters students, involved in setting up MOOCs with over 20,000 students. Research includes management of occlusal problems using MI techniques, bringing together esthetics and function with a focus on tooth preservation. Please bring loupes if you would like. Aims | The aim of this course is to train dentists in the important features of occlusion and what to look for in clinical dentistry in the management of various occlusal problems | ||||
Objectives | By the end of this course delegates should; - 1. Have understanding of how to correct occlusal problems such as tooth wear, poor aesthetics, cracked cusp syndrome, fractured restorations, overeruption, TMD and bruxism. 2. Know how to avoid creating occlusal problems 3. Gain practical experience of repairing worn teeth and correcting occlusion 4. Gain knowledge and practical experience of how to distalise and when and how to use high restorations 5. Know how to select the correct splint and had practical experience of making splints 6. Understand what clinical records are required in different situations 7. Know how to use a facebow and when to and how to record an intraocclusal record 8. Have knowledge of the safe use of anti-snoring appliances | ||||
