Delegates registering must have completed either the Developing Oral Surgery Skills Part 1, completed an Oral Surgery Hands On study day within the last 12 months or completed a DCT1/DCT2 post.

Aims

To build on oral surgery competencies and further develop your hands on skills and knowledge base.

Objectives

· Self-assessment of current skills and personal development needs

· Mapping of session to delegates personal development

· Assist delegate to assess their skill level in MOS, and personal development needs

· Recap of basic MOS techniques, flap design, bone removal suturing

· Develop skills in closing OAC; apicectomy; wisdom teeth, simple biopsy

· Assessment of patient’s suitability for MOS in practice

· Limitations – practitioner understands limitations of their skills

Learning outcomes
  • The delegates will have a realistic view of their MOS skills
  • The delegates will know how to set up for, assess, and perform simple removal of broken teeth and retained roots for their patients
  • The delegates will be aware of how to close an OAC; perform a simple biopsy; perform and apicectomy; remove a vertical or mesioangular lower third molar
  • The delegates will have a better understanding of the referral process
