DescriptionThe overall aim of this course is to help learners understand the principles of current GDC publications on standards for dental professionals, so as to enable them to behave in an ethical and professional manner at all times.
Additional information1. To review the current GDC standards of conduct, performance and ethics that govern dental professionals
2. To examine the principles of ethical behaviour relevant to dentistry, including honesty, confidentiality, personal and professional integrity, and appropriate moral values
3. To discuss the personal and professional implications of failing to adhere to GDC Standards and other professionally relevant laws, ethical guidance and systems
4. To provide information and advice on how to deal properly and professionally with complaints

This course is intended for the entire practice team : Dental Nurses, Dentists, Receptionists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Receptionists.

Nick Torlot BDS Lond FDS RCS Eng, GDC 58632 joined the DDU as a dento-legal adviser in 2010. Previously, he was Assistant and then Clinical Director of the Salaried Dental Services in Hampshire. In addition, he has been involved in dental education as both an adviser and a vocational trainer for the London Deanery and as a vocational trainer for the Wessex Deanery.

Aims
  1. Describe and summarise the key issues relating to conduct, performance and ethics, in accordance with GDC standards and other professionally relevant laws, ethical guidance and systems
  2. Demonstrate ability in the decision-making process regarding ethical and professional responsibility, in order to integrate ethical conduct and professionalism into dentistry
  3. Demonstrate recognition of what patients can expect from the dental team; what registrants must do to ensure patient expectations are met; how registrants meet the standards
  4. Describe the implications of failing to adhere to GDC Standards and legislation, and reflect on situations where dental professionals have been removed from the register
