Aims

To discuss a number of different types of dental and non-dental pain, and to help delegates to appreciate that diagnosis and management of dental pain can be very logical if a systematic approach is adopted when taking a pain history.

Objectives
  • To discuss the clinical presentation of a number of different causes of odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain that may present in clinical practice.
  • To briefly discuss the underlying physiology that underpins the patient’s symptoms.
  • To discuss the appropriate clinical management of a patient with oro-facial pain.
