Aims

To update the dental team with current knowledge about autistic spectrum disorder and facilitate improvements in the dental practice setting for the management of children with autistic spectrum disorder.

Objectives
  • To increase delegates knowledge and understanding of autistic spectrum disorder
  • To understand why patients with autism may exhibit challenging behaviours in the dental surgery
  • To understand the concerns parents and carers may have regarding dental treatment for their autistic child
  • To understand behavioural modification techniques which may be applied to help individuals with autism behave appropriately in the dental setting
  • To enable the dental team to put strategies in place to create a sensory friendly clinic environment for children with autism
