Additional information

Please note:

  • You need to appoint an appropriately trained, GDC registered workplace supervisor (Dentist) who will provide the practical skills training and assessment.
  • You are required to attend all three sessions and complete a portfolio of experence, 1 case study and 3 structured essay questions to the required standard.
  • Home study is required for successful completion of this course
  • Email and phone support will be available throughout the course.
  • This course is mapped and structured to the DH 2014 PHE document, ‘Delivering Better Oral Health: an evidenced-based toolkit for prevention’ 3rd Edition
  • Dental Nurses undertaking this course are expected to adhere to the General Dental Council’s 2013 ‘Standards for the Dental Team’

Course overview

The course will provide theoretical knowledge and the practical skills required for the candidates to competently apply topical fluoride to children and adult patients on the prescription from a dentist.

There will be two underpinning theory days; 6 hours per day. The sessions will be held 6 weeks apart to allow sufficient time for the candidates to build a portfolio of practical experience and written assignments. There will be a half-day session 2 weeks after the second session, this session will be to check portfolio’s and collect them for verification. The candidate will provide one expanded case study and three structured essay questions. Email and telephone support will be available throughout the duration of the course.

The candidate will be required to appoint an appropriately trained, GDC registered workplace supervisor who will provide the practical skills training and assessment.

The portfolio will be verified and confirmation of results will be sent to the appropriate person for certification within 21 days
