Aims

To enable an assessment of smoking status and appropriate referral to local services with a brief overview of treatments to help with smoking cessation

Objectives

On completion of level 1 training delegates will be able to:

  • Ask about smoking in an appropriate way and establish smoking status
  • Use resources to provide tailored information
  • Explain the risks of smoking and oral health and the benefits of stopping
  • Describe how smoking creates a behavioural and physical dependence
  • Describe the principles and effectiveness of behavioural support and medication
  • Present local services to patients
  • Refer patients to local services
