Aims

This training day will look at issues around consent and give an overview of the Mental Capacity Act (to Include Deprivation of Liberty) and its application for the dental team

Objectives
  • Define the term mental capacity
  • Discuss the five core principles of the Act.
  • Explain how mental capacity is assessed.
  • Define and explain the term Deprivation of Liberty.
  • Describe the assessment and authorisation process under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Apply MCA and DoL’s to work related scenarios
  • Provide supporting evidence for capacity assessments
