Peter Whiteford has a very interactive approach to this subject and the presentation is extremely memorable. One word of warning for any asthmatic delegates, make sure you have your reliever inhaler with you!

Aims

To update the dental team in the common medical emergencies that could be encountered in and out of the dental surgery

Objectives

By the end of this course delegates will

  • Be more confident at analysing the patient and making a differential diagnosis
  • Learn to use A B C D E in analysing the patient
  • Be more confident in the use of the small number of emergency drugs now recommended for use in the dental surgery for various medical emergencies e.g., syncope, asthma, epilepsy, hypoglycaemia, anaphylaxis, choking, angina, myocardial infarction and cardiac arrest
  • Know when to call for help and what to report to the emergency services
  • Use basic life support until the emergency service arrives
  • Know how to work as an effective team
  • Understand that these skills need regular practice
